Asia’s foremost gaming exhibition, Global Gaming Expo (G2E) Asia opens today in the world’s leading gambling destination, Macau. The global industry descends on the Cotai Strip over the next three days to see the latest market-attuned products and opportunities unfolding in the Asia-Pacific region.
Produced by Reed Exhibitions and the American Gaming Association, the eighth edition of G2E Asia started with some of the biggest names in Asian gaming leading its annual conference program. The opening panel of the conference’s recurring Global Markets Forum covered the latest developments across Macau with a panel comprising Gamal Aziz of Wynn Macau, Grant Bowie of MGM China and Grant Chum of Sands China.
Pansy Ho, co-Chair and Executive Director of MGM China delivered the conference’s keynote address to a standing crowd, shortly before the ribbon-cutting ceremony. 20pc larger than last, the 8,500sqm tradeshow floor is the event’s biggest-ever. The Venetian Macao convention centre becomes home to the leading gaming suppliers in the region, each showcasing their product portfolio to an estimated record attendance of more than 5,500 visitors.
As you enter the hall, the future of Asian gaming immediately springs to life. Market-attuned games take centre stage, with a colourful array of Chinese characters, dragons and pagodas jumping out of the latest slot machines. The first stand you see is IGT, presenting its latest titles for the region including San Xing Bao Si, Lucky Dragon and Jade Fortune slot machines. It also brings global table-focused products to the show including Lucky Chip™, as well as sbX®.
Next to IGT sits Aruze Gaming, boasting this year’s largest stand. A company of Japanese pachinko tycoon Kazuo Okada, Aruze has a strong presence in Asia and is displaying its latest products including Innovator and Innovator Deluxe® slot machines, as well as its G-Series of gaming products that connect the entire floor.
Other large stands dominated by global leaders include Bally Technologies, which combines SHFL Entertainment for the first time at a major tradeshow. Novomatic presents its innovative product range including the Dominator®, Panther Roulette™, NOVOSTAR® V.I.P. and Jewels Factory™ Jackpot.
Aristocrat displays its brand new Helix™ slant cabinet, as well as its array of big branded games; Interblock is showcasing its new range of G5 table gaming products; and smaller stands fill the hall with flashing lights and new technologies, featuring both local and global companies such as Sega Sammy, Hydako, WMS and Astro.
This year’s conference program provides the most comprehensive gaming education in Asia. Teaming up with the University of Macau, the event attracts students wishing to immerse themselves into the world of gaming and seek potential career opportunities. Conferences cover land-based, interactive, mobile gaming and convergence; casino management and marketing, and topics on key markets including Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, the Philippines and Russia.
