Udenna Development Corporation has broken ground on its $300m casino resort project on the central island of Mactan, in the central Philippine province of Cebu. The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp (Pagcor) announced the beginning of works in The Emerald Resort Hotel and Casino on a press release.
The company held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 26, led by UDC Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy. PAGCOR’s top management led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andrea Domingo, President and Chief Operating Officer Alfredo Lim.
“This resort casino can be a lot different from everyone else,” Steelman said during the groundbreaking ceremony. “It will have grand suites, five-story aquariums, retail malls that will rival the best in Asia among others. It will have gaming areas but we designed it to be family-friendly. The palatial aspect of this building will certainly attract more tourists. Besides, this site is one of the most beautiful in the world.”
The project, dubbed Lapu-Lapu Leisure Mactan, will sit on 12 hectares of beachfront property near the airport. Having started construction on the project, Udenna plans to aims to open the casino, retail complex and hotels by 2019. The entire project will be completed in 2022.
The property will have a skydiving center on a pier; a convention center; luxury hotels and villas; a casino, specialty dining options; private residences; and condominium hotels.
“We hope that in two or three years’ time, we will be here again to witness the opening of this project,” said the head of Pagcor, Andrea Domingo, in a statement included in the release.
